Frequently Asked Questions

Layla Thompson is focused on three specific areas of her game. She is improving her wall battles by winning puck contests along the boards to transition out of the defensive zone. She is developing more intensive backchecking to disrupt opponent rushes, strip pucks, and transition to the attack. She is also refining her tight-area playmaking, completing slip-passes through the triangles of opposing defenders inside the offensive zone.

Outside of hockey, Layla Thompson is a multi-sport athlete who competes in track, soccer, golf, and swimming, and enjoys snowboarding. She spends time hiking and running in the mountains, and is committed to her academics. She also enjoys cooking and strength training as part of her active lifestyle.

Layla Thompson trains with several coaches and hockey professionals. She plays under Brad Arsenault, Head Coach of the Barrie Sharks U15 AA. She trains with Justin Azevedo, owner of the Hockey Mill and Head Trainer for the Collingwood Blues (OJHL). She also works with Mike Berry, Head Trainer at Two Way Hockey School, and Satoshi Takano, Owner/Operator of ReactForge.

Layla Thompson graduated Grade 8 with Honors Distinction and holds a DELF Level 2 French Language Certificate. She is a three-time defending Grey Bruce County 5K Cross Country Champion and holds multiple Area Meet and County track records in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m. She won the 2024 Collingwood Spartan and Summit 700 trail athletic events at Blue Mountain Resort, and has volunteered as a coach for primary-level students in track, soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
